    Hi Everyone,

I have worked in the staffing industry as well as the legal field. I am tired of being laid off and being under paid! I want to start my own staffing service. The thing is "How can I get it going on a very limited income? Instead of starting big, I want to start out small perhaps starting Home-Based. Does anone know how I can go about this?
I have done all aspects of the staffing industry from sales to management to interviewing and recruiting. Any and all help will be deeply appreciated.

  4. Hi - I am a Virtual Assistant who works with several staffing firms. I do their research, ad placement, resume processing, etc. From my experience, it is not hard to do, just find a really good niche that you have personal knowledge and contacts in and specialize. I even worked for someone who does attorney search and placement for corporations. He maintains a data base of associates at all of the lawfirms in our state and develops them for positions to be filled in corporate law offices. Your database of contacts will become your most valuable asset! If you can develop that hiring firms will pay attention to you. Good luck and remember that we are all here to help you.

I too am in the process of putting together a business plan to start a staffing company. I have found a niche I am going to focus on and am trying to figure out how to start this company by piecing it together a little at a time. Will concentrate on placing professionals in Accounting, IT, Marketing, etc. on a temp/perm basis. Does anyone have info on organization metrics in the staffing industry and suggestions on how to grow your business (steps to take)? I worked in the industry for about a year many years ago as a sales rep. Since I have been out of the industry for so long I just want to make sure also that I have all processes in place before contacting customers, i.e., interviewing, testing applicants, legal agreements to be signed by clients, basically everything that needs to be done before the applicant is placed. Seems basic, but just want to ensure all bases are covered.

In response to the question of getting it started on a limited income, I would consider possibly outsourcing payroll and taking baby steps in making placements initially. Have you tried to get a small business loan?

But I use a credit card processing company in LA for a lot of this stuff. Since I have been out of the industry for so long I just want to make sure also that I have all processes in place before contacting customers

    All,
Interesting article in the July Money magazine talking about a shift from full time workers to freelance contract workers. Good info for your business and marketing plans.

Well What I have found that this site www.bootstrapbusiness.org uses a method call bootstrap, to start the business. I use it so I can vouch that it works. It works, and doesn't need as much starting money as other ways.
