    Hi,

I have a boutique and am 51% owner, with a partner. We run a great business and pay @ $7000 a month in payroll, but do not pay ourselves. We work 4 days a week and I want to start bringing home a paycheck - after all these years!!! I need it more than he does. We pay all of our bills in full including credit cards every month.

I have felt for quite some time now like I am providing good jobs for my staff without taking care of myself and my family first and relieving my husband of some of the stress of supporting us 100%.

How do I approach my partner with this? If I want to bring home a check I will cut staff hours and work the sales floor myself. How would this work if he does not want to work the sales floor?
We spend all of our time in the office with other sides of the business, but we can afford the time to work on the floor if we focus and streamline the back office work.

My partner and I have never had any issues and I really want to approach this right. I don't want him to feel like he has to work more if he does not want to. I just need a paycheck!!!

    Any advice would be appreciated!!

  2. Hmm, well simonepdx, this is a tough situation.

The only idea I have is to be honest with him, and tell him how you feel. You should definitely be getting paid for that amount of time you work, if it's possible. If it's not, maybe you could try something on your own?

I'm not positive of your situation, but if you have a long standing relationship with your partner, why not just mention it and see what he says? Say, you've been thinking about how much you need some extra money, and would like to bring home a paycheck. From there, discuss if it's possible..

And then just go from there. I wish you the best. :)

  3. You should definitely be paying yourself. I just read a book called "richest man in Babylon", which had me remember that if you don't take care of yourself, no one else will. You may need to take a look at your books and see what you can modify to start getting paid, especially since you are clear of all debt.

  4. If I want to bring home a check I will cut staff hours and work the sales floor myself. If you've been thinking about how much you need some extra money. There are a lot of companies that can do this to help you process credit cards and help you with whatever you need.

I would think that as long as you're open and honest it will all go ok - and who knows maybe your partner has felt that way before and like you was aprehensive about bringing it up. Good Luck!
